Prairie Pretties

Dusk is when I fell in love with our little place on the prairie and dusk here still takes my breath away.  My flowers this year have been troopers and have over-performed despite the sub-par care they’ve received.

As we were out doing chores tonight, I just couldn’t help but make sure and snap a few pictures so I can look back come winter and remind myself that spring will come…

Worth 1,000 Words: Our Weekend

We woke up Saturday morning and noticed that Sawyer was awake and wasn’t crying.  We KNEW that was a good sign because that hadn’t been the case for the past week.  Poor girl has some serious strep (and most likely some other virus to boot) going on and had not felt well.  At.  All.

I got up to use the restroom (surprise, surprise) and I saw that she had left us a note on our dresser.  Soon after, she came downstairs and told us that it said Sawyer feels better and wants to feed her goats.  We knew she’d turned a corner!

She’s still not 100% and is still building back strength, but she’s SIGNIFICANTLY better than all of last week.  I even lost my mind a little in the midst of her healing and let her snuggle the barn cat…in the house.

Wrex tried to burn our house down on Saturday.  Thankfully, it just got the yard.

Everyone keeps saying that that section will come in really nice and green.  I’m wondering if we need to do the other sections.  I know a guy…

He totally redeemed himself by scoring these:

Old barn doors

Aren’t they divine??  I don’t have any immediate plans with them and may just store them until the “dream house” comes along.  Regardless, I LOVE them.

Oh, and he asked me on a date…

We worked on some decorations for Wryder’s second birthday that is rapidly approaching.

He found these in the mudroom today and I about had to tackle him as he tried to ride them.  Ahem.  Boy loves his tractors.

He’s also really been into his hat lately.  For whatever reason, he wanted to wear it backwards.  I’m not totally sure how I feel about this long term, but he sure looked cute for a little while!

And I even got to sneak inside after my walking workout and take a bubble bath.  It’s one of my happy places.

She’s a growing!  I have yet to NOT have to be induced to have my babies…but I’m hoping I get to labor at home for a bit with this one.  We’ll see.

It’s now Monday, daddy is already home and we got some new Jamberry’s in the mail for Sawyer!  It’s bound to be a good night!

Our Humble Abode: Front Yard

Oh, friends…I think we’ve recovered for the most part.  We’re still nursing sunburns and a few scabbed over blisters but other than that, we feel human again.

When we moved into our home three years ago there was no yard.  The “front yard” was basically just packed down dirt, which we then used as a driveway for a few years.

See? No grass...

We had planned to lay sod the first year we were here but we got busy doing all sorts of other things outside like cutting down dead trees, building fence, removing old fence, etc. and it never got done.  The next summer, a handsome newborn slowed us down but this past weekend we made it a priority!

We started by leveling a place for a sidewalk that would lead from the driveway to the front door, as there never was one.  I wanted a cute, curvy sidewalk, but it was a little faster and easier to just make a straight one…and I’m all about fast and easy!

Thankfully, the ground was soft thanks to the inch of rain we’d had during the week so it made the weeding and leveling a little easier.

Our neighbor and his grandad came and helped us float and level the sidewalk and we were so grateful that they did!

We were really pleased with how the sidewalk turned out…it just kinda makes you want to rip out all of the old concrete around the place and start over!

Next, it was time to level the yard area and it get it ready for sod.  This took a while…a long while.  We finally finished about 6:00 on Sunday evening and got to actually lay the sod.  We’ve decided that laying sod is easy; prepping the ground for sod is not.

It looks soooooo nice (sans the seams, of course) and was totally worth feeling like we did on Monday.  😉  Sawyer has already taken advantage of a few barefoot walks and some sprinkler play.

Greeeeeeeeen…

We got flowers planted and our other lovely neighbor came down and bladed our driveway!  Seriously, the place is looking good…except for the rest of the acreage that needs mowed again since we were a little busy with this project…we’ll get there.
