Random Rambles

It’s fun Friday and while the weather is cooperating beautifully – I love this cloudy stuff – poor Wryder’s not having much fun.  Little guy has been a bit fussy the past two days and today is no exception.  Pretty sure he’s got some major teeth trying to make their way in.  He has fever this morning so back to bed he went!  We’re really wanting to go watch some high school football tonight so we’re hoping he feels better soon!

Our good friends from church have a son, whom Sawyer adores, who plays football in Grant.  She’s convinced he plays for the Broncos so we’re hoping she’s not too disappointed tonight.  😉

Speaking of the Broncos, this sweet girl has football in her blood and I am LOVING it!  Wrex isn’t the biggest fan but he’ll watch with me…just not as spiritedly.  Sawyer is my official football watching partner!

Last week, she posed the following question:

“Mom, I always wear dresses to church.  Do you think it would be ok if I wore my Broncos shirt this time??”  Of course you can!

She was fired up!  We ate lunch at Wendys and she kept yelling announcing, “Go Broncos!”  There were quite a few people that got a kick out of that (thankfully).  One gentleman asked her if she was gonna watch Peyton Manning get his 500th touchdown and she goes, “You mean Paytie?”  Apparently, they’re on a pet-name basis.

A friend of ours blessed us with some hand-me-downs for her and there was a little softball shirt inside with the number 18 on the back.  She went to put it on the other morning and came squealing downstairs, “I’m like Paytie!”  Gosh, I adore her…

On Sunday, she got to take part in her first Lord’s supper and yes, I had to take a picture.

IMG_5486It was a sweet moment, Bronco gear and all.

The bestie had her 20 week ultrasound and they’re having a….

10703785_10152746636298815_7200685928593073847_nBOY!  We’re so excited for them!  Sawyer has lots to teach baby Eva about being a big sister to a little brother….

On the pregnancy note, my nausea has subsided significantly, praise the Lord.  I’m in the “I don’t really feel pregnant just bloated” stage…t’s better than the former, for sure…

Colorado is one of the states that often skips fall (and spring for that matter) and goes straight into cold and snow, but this year we’re actually having a fall!  My flowers are still blooming and growing and we keep saying we’re gonna mow the grass “one last time” and that has yet to happen.  The trees all around are actually getting to go through the whole color change process…

It’s a wonderful change!  It’s nice to able to go outside in long sleeves or a sweatshirt without there being snow on the ground.  We’re going to soak in all of this autumnal beauty for as long as we can!

Happy Friday!

Everywhere a Chick Chick

You might’ve seen this picture on Facebook this morning…

IMG_4772I ordered this shirt for little miss and it came in yesterday – perfect timing!  She giggled about it all afternoon because the chicken “looked silly with it’s hat and purse.”  🙂  She got to wear it to town today to pick up a very special delivery!

IMG_4774IMG_4776IMG_4775Baby chicks!

We ordered 100 red leg hens and they all arrived safe and sound.  We have about 70 layers right now but they’re all about egged out, so it was time to renew the herd?  Clutch?  What is a group of chickens called?  A brood or a peep, thank you, Google.

Sawyer handled every chick as she helped daddy count them all and help them get their first drinks of water.

DSCF2037DSCF2026DSCF2022They were absolutely smitten with her!  Every time she ventured into her space, they’d crowd around her and just stay.

DSCF2049DSCF2053DSCF2052Wryder thought they were AWESOME!  He’s gonna be a little chicken man, too, I’m thinking.

IMG_4787IMG_4779IMG_4777We had to have a few lessons on gentleness after he held one by the leg and waved it around, but he caught on quickly.  (Don’t tell PETA).

IMG_4786IMG_4784IMG_4783They’ll be laying eggs in seven to eight months.  Until then, I’m thinking I know some kids that will have some fun with them…a couple of adults, too; I could sit and watch them all day…DSCF2043DSCF2042DSCF2027See why Wryder just wanted to squeeze ’em?!

Daddy’s New Do

We switched toys on Monday so there’s been a lot of beautifying going on around here.

There's not a ton to brush...
There’s not a ton to brush…

Sawyer really likes to do daddy’s hair because she can load it full of product.

Please hair, grow!
Please hair, grow in the name of Jesus!

Mousse is her favorite – what fun!

You can see what's left of it on her fingers...

Anything that sprays out of a bottle is pretty fun, too.

Moroccan oil? Why not?!
Moroccan oil? Why not?!

She gets busy snipping with her little pretend scissors.  We have lots of talks about how we only do that with these special scissors and no others…ahem.

That's some fast scissor action!

Daddy’s a really good sport!

She's a gentle little beautician...
Doesn’t he look handsome?!

He was fine that I posted all of these shirtless pictures, by the way.  Pictures of what she’s done to his toes…those are a different story.

A Good Day and a Gift from Goo Goo

Today?  Was a really good day.  I think we were all desperate for some family time together that didn’t involve someone feeling like death warmed over.  We had breakfast and cooked some pretend food in the toy room kitchen…

We let Sawyer get a little outside time in since it wasn’t too chilly or windy and we cooked some more in the barn…

IMG_3104We checked the mail and found we had a gift from Goo Goo so we all put it to good use…

IMG_3132IMG_3133The kiddos bathed together and got all snuggled up in their jammies…we ate a little supper and Sawyer watched a little show before bed.  It was just a simple, good, familial day…my favorite kind.

Fun, Fuzzy Surprise

We woke up to a really fun, fuzzy surprise!  Out of habit, I peaked out the kitchen window to see if the baby calf had made it’s way out of the womb and into the world…and turns out – he did!

Isn't he adorable?!
Welcome to the world, little guy!

Sawyer and I ran to the bedroom to get daddy and we all threw our shoes on and ran outside.  All of the other ladies came to dote on the new baby along with us.

Isn't that what WE do with a new birth, too?
Isn’t that what WE do with a new birth, too?

His momma is a little snarly motherly.  This picture was her charging at me for the umpteenth time.  She did NOT want me anywhere near him and was prepared to take me out.

Get back!
Get back!

I was armed and ready with my sorting stick…and a fence.

Not a big fan of being walloped.
Not a big fan of being walloped

Daddy got her away and got iodine on the baby’s navel and off we went to church!  He had sucked before we’d even gotten out there this morning but showed us he knew how just so we felt even better about leaving him.  She seems a little embarrassed about nursing in public (note the ear) but she stood for him.

Good eater
He’s a good eater

New life of any kind is an absolute miracle and man, I need life.  This world is so full of injustices; injustices that are hard on my heart.  Satan’s on the warpath out to kill, steal and destroy and as hard as it to comprehend, the Lord allows some of this to happen.  In His sovereignty, He could stop it…but for whatever reason, He doesn’t always.  In our little world alone, there have been moms and babies taken too early, cancer found too late, kids in the system who end up in abusive homes, brain tumors that are growing – and those are just the biggies (in the past WEEK, mind you) that have been weighing on our hearts and minds.  I’m the first to admit that I.don’t.get.it.  I don’t understand…and maybe I won’t this side of heaven.  So I have to turn to what I believe as true.  I have the Word.  And it says the He comes to give life and life abundantly.  Lord, I need that life…and I needed to see this little life this morning.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.

Pancake Kind of Morning

When you’ve had a late night the evening prior and everyone wakes up a little bit later than normal…

When it’s 40 degrees outside, skies are overcast and the air is oh so fresh and crisp…

When daddy doesn’t have to leave to go to work until noon…

It’s DEFINITELY a pancake kind of morning!

I’ve tried and experimented and tossed out and tweaked a lot of different pancake recipes and this one is our fave, hands down!  We’re not big fans of huge, thick pancakes that you have to drench in syrup and chew and chew and chew to get down, so these are a bit on the thinner side.

Buttermilk Pancakes makes 24 CD sized pancakes

3 eggs
2 cups buttermilk
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
      –
Heat griddle to 350.  Mix all ingredients well, but avoid over-mixing.  Let rest for a few minutes while the griddle gets hot.
Batter up!
Batter up!

Then, spoon onto hot griddle (I like to use a 1/4 cup measuring cup) and when half-cooked, flip ’em over!  Serve with warm maple syrup…

Apparently, it's still too early...

and eat them with a cute boy or girl!

Sawyer’s not a big sweet eater (what?!  I know.  Who in the heck are her real parents?!?) but she can put some pancakes away!  So can her daddy.  After I set these on the table, he said, “Where are the ones for you guys?”

Gone gone

Try ’em out and let me know what you think OR if you think we might like your recipe even better, share it in the comments section.  Pretty sure Wrexy won’t mind a little taste testing…
