I, for one, am not complaining. We need the moisture desperately so I refuse to complain about the form from which it comes. Plus, we’re all beat from a busy weekend and could use some snuggly, relaxing time.
The weather also makes me want to create, thus today’s Pinterest picks. Enjoy!
Our sweet little Wryder turned one last week and we celebrated his birthday with family while we were in Nebraska this weekend. Wrexy’s parents allowed us to raid their home (thank you!) and all of the great-grands made it in, along with Uncle Waco, to celebrate with us!
This was one of the smaller little parties I’ve thrown but, by far, one of my most favorite!
I designed this invitation and then went from there…
I love lots of color and different patterns and textures and I was really pleased with how everything came together.
We took the little bunny from his invitation, blew it up and then cut it out of foam board.
I knew I already had a lot of bunting going on but I knew I wanted a series of 13 pictures that showed him every month from birth to one year. I knew Robin had this little tree in the corner of the dining room, so I printed the pictures and then hung them on the tree…
My friend Stephanie (fantastic name, yes?!) makes delicious and beautiful cakes! How cute are these?! She went above and beyond my little instructions…girl after my own heart!
I also made “carrots” (candy coated pretzels) in “dirt” (crushed Oreos).
For thank-you’s, we got each couple a photo book of Wryder’s first year – they were a hit!
We drank fun soda (Bunny Beer) and ate…
Hoppin’ Ham Sammies
Funny Bunny Fries
Garden Greens
Fuzzy Fruit Skewers
Cottontail Carrots and Ranch
The little guy had as much fun as we did!
He got lots of fun boy toys…
His little cake was a hit, too! Remarkably, he ate like such a gentleman!
It was a wonderfully exhausting weekend celebrating our sweet baby boy! Now, great-grandma is home with us for a week…more posts full of fun to come!
I’m in event planning mode, which is a great place to be if you’re me. Between spring weddings and first birthdays, I am ready to par-tay…er, decorate at least. Today’s lovely spring weather got me thinking about one of my favorite events EVER – my ridiculously awesome baby shower.
My adoptive mom and sisters threw Sawyer and I the most beautiful shower I’ve ever attended, and I’ve been to a few. It was bright and girly and whimsical and fun – all things that describe Sawyer today. There were paper chains and flowers; homemade paper fans and pinwheels; little containers of homegrown grass and goldfish in flower vases…no detail was spared – it. was. perfect.
In honor of “throwback Thursday” feast your eyes on this beauty of celebration!
The only thing that could’ve made the day better would have been a little less wind (anybody remember the hurricane force gusts that ripped through Colorado that day?!), but it was still one of those days that I’ll cherish forever. I’m reliving it now…with extreme fondness…
With the winter Olympics kicking off, I decided to spend our preschool time giving Sawyer a quick run-down since hubby and I will probably be watching as much of them as we can. We’re a little competitive so watching amazing athletes bring home the gold for the USA is right up our alley.
As part of our learning experience, we made a torch and a medal – gold, of course.
She then proceeded to perform an ice skating routine…
We awarded her the gold, obviously!
Since she was so excited about the Olympics themselves, I dug around in the pantry and made a little spread for our watch party.
I remember my mom making my brother and I “party trays” for events like this. It wasn’t ever anything elaborate…just some lunch meat and cheese and crackers and maybe some relishes or veggies…but we got to eat them on little glass party sets and that made all the difference!
Sawyer was equally excited about our little make shift party of sorts and she LOVED watching the snowboarding trials. She thought those girls were pretty cool… I have to admit that I enjoy the summer games more than the winter, but now that football season is over, I’ll take what I can get.
If you’re not completely appalled at my behavior as a parent and are still reading this blog – thank you! 😉
This past Saturday, we were all so excited that it was supposed to be in the 60’s, so we had made plans to work in the barn and on the chicken house. We got dressed to go out and the stinkin’ wind about blew us over. We worked for a bit and then decided to do something a little more fun (and a little less windy).
There was an antique auction about 45 miles from here so we decided to hit the road! One of the ladies who had a booth in the Ogallala Antique Store decided to sell her collection so we thought we might find some fun things. We were right!
I found this really fun quilt for one of the guest rooms. This picture does not do it justice – you’ll have to check it out in person…
I found some more vintage Fiestaware to add to my little collection…
I fell in love with these hens on nests. They open up and you can put a little something inside…
I LOVE this big, old metal bowl. My fruit is going to look fab in it…
We scored Saywer some vintage dolls and doll furniture for her dollhouse…
I got some incredibly cute needlepoint pillowcases. This one is my fave…
We found some old pie pans and some little cast iron skillets, which Sawyer immediately called dibs on for her outdoor playhouse…
And we found this cute little Kitt and Kaboodle doll in great shape and her horse works like a charm. She is adorable! Someone really liked her, too…
The kids did so well at the auction and were so patient and obedient. Sawyer made friends with a little boy named Travis and they had fun pushing Wryder in the stroller all over the fairgrounds, which he enjoyed as well.
I spent time with a dear, dear friend yesterday who isn’t just sweet, kind and Godly but also has a keen eye for all things vintage/rustic/primitive. Her house is super cute and it made me want to browse Pinterest and pretend I had time to do some projects. One day……
Until then, enjoy my lastest faves!
This pig feeder turned bar is a total yes! Oh, honey! Get the welder ready!
Who would not want to spend time in this kitchen? To die for!
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
How cute (and easy to make) is this?! Pleather…I need pleather…
Love these pendant lights made out of old funnels. Clean out your garage, people, and send these my way! 😉
I know a little boy that would look completely adorable in this!
I love to have people over and I love to make people feel comfortable – isn’t that what you want when you go somewhere? This is an eloquent reminder…
This light fixture is made of embroidery hoops – let’s do it!
This might look weird to some in my Colorado home, but who doesn’t love Texas?
So, you’ve already explored the tree but I thought I’d share the rest of the living room with you. It’s pretty eclectic but I dig it!
Sawyer loves books, just like her mom and dad, so we put all of the Christmas books in one place and read at least three a day!
I got this super tiny nativity set when Wrex and I first got married and I love it! It’s just so sweet…and perfect for little hands to play with.
I got this fabulous piece of work from a dear, dear woman and it’s probably my favorite thing in my house right now. It’s DIVINE.
The triangle tree is our advent calendar of sorts called a Jesse tree, which I’ll do a separate post on at some point. It recaps Jesus’ lineage as a shoot of the tree of Jesse and continually points everything back to Him. Sawyer LOVES it, as do we!
I love these cowboy santas – they are so very Wrex!
My other favorite nativity is this one with the woodland bears. Baby Jesus is just so stinkin’ cute!
These guys are quite handsome, too! I love the old fashioned colored lights and have several little jars of them.
All of this red and green and gold just delights me and brings great joy! It just feels so warm and inviting!
Can’t forget the stockings!! We don’t have a fireplace, but the stair banister works fabulously.
We made this star out of yardsticks and I love how it turned out, though I don’t feel like my photography skills do it any justice. :/
We can’t forget the felt tree! We made this last year so Sawyer could have her own tree to decorate over and over again – still a hit!
My little house feels so cozy and warm with all of the lights and red, green and gold. For me, these things point me to Jesus – for He is why we do this at all…
