It’s still a bit chilly here today. A high of 55 doesn’t really scream May to me but at least I haven’t planted flowers yet.
Since we spent the morning inside, we decided to have a little fun while brother was napping. We rolled out a big piece of paper and made Sawyer a twin!
We traced her body and then added all the details. I got a mirror out for her to look at herself and make observations and then she transferred what she saw to the paper.
Once we were finished with all of our details, we cut her out!
I, for one, am not complaining. We need the moisture desperately so I refuse to complain about the form from which it comes. Plus, we’re all beat from a busy weekend and could use some snuggly, relaxing time.
The weather also makes me want to create, thus today’s Pinterest picks. Enjoy!
Our sweet little Wryder turned one last week and we celebrated his birthday with family while we were in Nebraska this weekend. Wrexy’s parents allowed us to raid their home (thank you!) and all of the great-grands made it in, along with Uncle Waco, to celebrate with us!
This was one of the smaller little parties I’ve thrown but, by far, one of my most favorite!
I designed this invitation and then went from there…
I love lots of color and different patterns and textures and I was really pleased with how everything came together.
We took the little bunny from his invitation, blew it up and then cut it out of foam board.
I knew I already had a lot of bunting going on but I knew I wanted a series of 13 pictures that showed him every month from birth to one year. I knew Robin had this little tree in the corner of the dining room, so I printed the pictures and then hung them on the tree…
My friend Stephanie (fantastic name, yes?!) makes delicious and beautiful cakes! How cute are these?! She went above and beyond my little instructions…girl after my own heart!
I also made “carrots” (candy coated pretzels) in “dirt” (crushed Oreos).
For thank-you’s, we got each couple a photo book of Wryder’s first year – they were a hit!
We drank fun soda (Bunny Beer) and ate…
Hoppin’ Ham Sammies
Funny Bunny Fries
Garden Greens
Fuzzy Fruit Skewers
Cottontail Carrots and Ranch
The little guy had as much fun as we did!
He got lots of fun boy toys…
His little cake was a hit, too! Remarkably, he ate like such a gentleman!
It was a wonderfully exhausting weekend celebrating our sweet baby boy! Now, great-grandma is home with us for a week…more posts full of fun to come!
I’m in event planning mode, which is a great place to be if you’re me. Between spring weddings and first birthdays, I am ready to par-tay…er, decorate at least. Today’s lovely spring weather got me thinking about one of my favorite events EVER – my ridiculously awesome baby shower.
My adoptive mom and sisters threw Sawyer and I the most beautiful shower I’ve ever attended, and I’ve been to a few. It was bright and girly and whimsical and fun – all things that describe Sawyer today. There were paper chains and flowers; homemade paper fans and pinwheels; little containers of homegrown grass and goldfish in flower vases…no detail was spared – it. was. perfect.
In honor of “throwback Thursday” feast your eyes on this beauty of celebration!
The only thing that could’ve made the day better would have been a little less wind (anybody remember the hurricane force gusts that ripped through Colorado that day?!), but it was still one of those days that I’ll cherish forever. I’m reliving it now…with extreme fondness…
I’ve mentioned before that I’m a lover of big hair…and big hair bows. Haven’t you heard the old adage, “the higher the hair, the closer to God?” It’s also true that “the bigger the bow, the better the mom.” I kid, I kid… 😉
Sawyer was in need of a grey bow for an outfit the other day and can you believe we didn’t have one?! The horror! So, I found some ribbon and whipped one up. I’ve made 90% of her bows 1.) because I’m cheap and 2.) because they’re super easy to make. I’ll show you!
There are a ton of styles out there; I’ve done two simple versions here, both with the same basic steps.
For the simpler, single stack bow you’ll need:
24 inches of ribbon
lighter
hot glue gun
scissors
alligator clip (or your barrette of choice)
Step 1: Sear the ends so they won’t fray.
Step 2: Fold your ribbon in half and press the end to make a crease. The crease will act as a marker for step 3.
Step 3: Open the ribbon back up and bring one end back to the middle crease, making a cancer awareness sign. Hold it secure with your finger while you do step 4.
Step 4: Do the same to the other end, making a figure eight. Secure with hot glue.
Step 5: Bring in each end and secure with hot glue.
Step 6: Take a 6 inch piece of ribbon and tie a knot it the center.
Step 7: Wrap the knot around the center of the bow and secure with hot glue on the backside.
Step 8: Secure your alligator clip to the back of the bow with hot glue.
Step 9: Get a cute little girl to model your bow!
For the double stack bow, you’ll need:
24 inches of ribbon
18 inches of ribbon
lighter
hot glue gun
scissors
alligator clip (or your barrette of choice)
Step 1: Follow steps 1-5 from above on your 24 inch ribbon.
Step 2: Do the same 5 steps for your 18 inch ribbon. You’ll now have two, identical bows in different sizes.
Step 3: Stack your smaller bow on top of the larger one and secure with hot glue.
Step 4: Secure your alligator clip to the back of the bow using hot glue.
Step 5: Get a cute girl to model your bow!
See? Super cute and super simple! If you’re wanting to make a bow collection, it’s a good idea to get a few friends together. Have each person buy different colors of ribbon than everyone else and then share your designs and colors, as one spool will make quite a few bows. Shoot me a picture of what you make!
I love Jesus, so Christmas and Easter are givens for me, but Valentine’s is, hands down, my next favorite. Maybe it’s because I am head-over-heels in love with husband and that I feel so incredibly and wholly loved by him. Whatever the reason, I am in! I love all of the pinks and reds…I love all the girly prints and designs and patterns…I love flowers and chocolate and romantic dates and sparkly things…I love it all!
We always take Valentine goodies to our neighbors and to Sawyer’s sale barn buddies and this year, she wanted to take a little something to her friends at Cubbies – how could I say no?! 🙂
I wanted to do something a little more than just a paper valentine or a piece of candy so we came up with this:
We found little piggy banks at the dollar store; pink for girls and blue for boys of course!
I added a little tag that says, “Hogs and Kisses” and I pic-monkeyed that little kissable piggy…
I am so completely happy with how they turned out, as was little miss; we can’t wait to give them to all of the cute Cubbies we know!
With the winter Olympics kicking off, I decided to spend our preschool time giving Sawyer a quick run-down since hubby and I will probably be watching as much of them as we can. We’re a little competitive so watching amazing athletes bring home the gold for the USA is right up our alley.
As part of our learning experience, we made a torch and a medal – gold, of course.
She then proceeded to perform an ice skating routine…
We awarded her the gold, obviously!
Since she was so excited about the Olympics themselves, I dug around in the pantry and made a little spread for our watch party.
I remember my mom making my brother and I “party trays” for events like this. It wasn’t ever anything elaborate…just some lunch meat and cheese and crackers and maybe some relishes or veggies…but we got to eat them on little glass party sets and that made all the difference!
Sawyer was equally excited about our little make shift party of sorts and she LOVED watching the snowboarding trials. She thought those girls were pretty cool… I have to admit that I enjoy the summer games more than the winter, but now that football season is over, I’ll take what I can get.
