Random Rambles

Up until I had kids, I much preferred “fall backward” over “spring forward.”  I mean, who wants to lose an hour of sleep?!  Well, with kids, spring forward works waaaaaaay better around here.  Since that happened a few weeks ago, Sawyer has been sleeping until 8 and Wryder until 9.  Wrex and I have been trying to at least be IN bed by 9 every night so I’ve been getting AT LEAST 10 hours of sleep at night.  It’s.  Been.  Glorious.

This Tuesday, Sawyer and daddy had teeth cleanings in North Platte that we had originally scheduled for 10 am.  His sale got cancelled so the dentist graciously allowed us to move our appointments until the afternoon…for the sleep factor, ya know?

We slept in, ate breakfast, got around and got to town in time for Wrexy to eat at his favorite Chinese food buffet.  🙂  Sawyer saw this sign in the bathroom and was just incredulous at its meaning…or what SHE thought it meant.

What the heck?!
What the heck?!

She said, “Pssh.  Mom?  What does that sign even mean?  Who would go to bed in the bathroom?”  Hysterical.  Love that girl…

She and daddy were both cavity free and got new toothbrushes and lots of compliments.  The dentist just thinks Wrex has the most wonderful teeth.  Sigh.  I’m sure I’m just a wee bit jealous.  Prior to his first visit six months ago, he hadn’t even been to a dentist in 12 years.  YEARS, people.  He still only had one cavity.  One.  And I know how much pop he drinks and how often he brushes.  He’s a dental marvel…  He told me last night that he’s pretty sure he had the same toothbrush all four years in college.  I almost threw up…for lots of reasons.

We’re head to Nebraska for Easter weekend so we’re going to do our little family Easter celebration this weekend.  Yesterday morning, we took some time to color and decorate some eggs.  This was Wryder’s first time and it went pretty much like I expected it to.  😉

Sawyer helped me sort some M&M’s yesterday morning.  We’re working on stuff for Wryder’s birthday and I needed yellow, green and brown only.  She was FAST!   I was quite impressed with her sorting skills…

IMG_2656Wryder did his part by eating anything that sister snuck him or we dropped on the floor.

I got some new Jams in the mail this week – some unexpected!  I decided it was time to take the time to do mine again.  (We did Sawyer’s Monday).  I love ALL of these – so cute!

Adorable, yes?!

A few years ago, one of Sawyer’s sale barn buddies gave her a two dollar bill and a 50 cent piece for Christmas.  I LOVED the sentimentality behind this gift because it was something my grandparents and uncles were always prone to do for us.  In fact, there was a number of years that I was positive a 50 cent piece had my Uncle Danny’s picture on it and I referred to them as Uncle Dannys and I would use ONLY Uncle Dannys to buy my school lunches.

Last night, Wrexy brought home a set for Wryder from this same gentleman.

It’s Fun Friday and we’ve got some innocent mischief to get into!  I pray you enjoy your weekend – it’s supposed to be a pretty one!

Oh. My. Aching. Back.

I’m tired.

Hubby and I worked all day on some post-baby meal prep.

We did this before Wryder came and it was soooooo handy!  In Denver, after Sawyer, we had such a huge community  of friends that brought us food, we didn’t cook for almost 6 weeks!  How awesome is that?!

Our sweet friends from church and MOPS brought us food after Wryder, there’s just not as many people in general out here on the plains compared to the city, ya know!?

We ended up making:

  • 4 pans of lasagna
  • fixings for 3 pots of beef and barley stew
  • fixings for 3 pots of taco soup
  • 4 pans of enchiladas
  • 10 loaves of pumpkin bread
  • 6 loaves of banana bread
  • 2 dozen bagel sandwiches
  • 10 dozen cookies
  • 4 homemade frozen pizzas

We laid out some ribeye roasts to cut steaks and fajita/stir fry meat and browned some hamburger to have on hand for tacos, etc.   I can throw together some fruit and veggies quick enough if hubby runs the grill!  Thankfully, he gets home in good time every evening so I’ll have help for suppers…

I think we’ll all survive.  I’d just so much rather snuggle a baby and bond with my new family of five than be cooking in the kitchen, yes?!

The girls in the Phipps house loves us some cute fingernails!  I paint Sawyer’s twice a week, usually the same with mine.

I’ve had my eye on some Jamberry nails for a while, I just didn’t know quite what to think about them.  My sweet cousin Melissa sent me some samples and I put them on tonight – which was quicker than I was expecting – and I’m afraid I’m in love….

IMG_2404-2Cute, yes?!  I’m hoping they last as long as they say do…but it is my first time applying them so I’m giving them a LOT of grace.  😉

I’m just thinking that it they last longer than three days that’s better than polish.  🙂  I’ll let you know what I think and you might have to order some, too!

My sweet friend Amy is currently in the throes of a fundraiser for IVF treatments.  Her husband, Jake, judged with Wrex at CSU.  Jake (is a stinkin’ rockstar – go Google him) has cystic fibrosis and due to the biological absence of the vas deferens in CF patients, IVF is the only way for them to have children.

Their first born is now two and they’re off and running for number two!  You can follow their journey on her blog at http://cheerwineandsunshine.blogspot.com.

For a fundraiser, she’s making these GORGEOUS necklaces!

IMG_2406Isn’t that gorgeous??  Her prices are on point, she’s FAST and it’s for a good cause! She’s already shipped out well over 100 but she’s ready for more orders!

She offers two different chain/wire colors, four bead colors and four chain length options.  If you want to order one of your own, get a hold of me or visit her Etsy store at www.etsy.com/shop/dustanddaffodils.

Sayble is growing, no doubt.  (If you’ve seen my belly, you’d agree.  *ahem*)  All of the moving about is my FAVORITE part of pregnancy, hands down.  She’s been a lot more active and purposeful lately and I have loved every minute of it.

I know we women have the hard job of birthing the baby and our hubby’s get off easy, but they sure don’t get to fully experience the sweetness of a miracle on the inside.  It still leaves me in awe…every. single. time.

Sleep.  Good sleep.  I hope at least.  Night night!

Big Day

Yesterday was a BIG day around here!  Daddy didn’t have his normal sale so we all loaded up and headed to North Platte to have a family fun day.  Wrexy sold some calves for good money and we needed to spend a few of those dollars at Menards to make some barn repairs AND my sweet hubby wanted to treat me to a pedicure.  How could I say no to that?!

I’ve been talking about wanting/needing one for quite some time…since, I don’t know…Wryder was born?!  Seriously, it’s been a while.  Sweet Sawyer has been in my camp, too.  She loves getting her nails painted (which I do for her twice a week) and she loves warm baths so the combination of the two was right up her alley!

I had been telling her that I didn’t have my first pedicure until I was 20.  Yes, 20!  She’s 4…I think we have time.  Plus, I didn’t think she was tall enough to reach the water.  Regardless, I told her she could get her nails painted but she couldn’t stop talking about this “peck-iture.”

We walked into the nail place and went to pick out some polish.  I turned to show her the purples but she wasn’t there.  I turned around and she was on the floor taking her shoes and socks off!  I looked up and they had a pink chair that looked like a bear specifically for little girls and she already had them filling it with water!  How could I hardly say no to that cuteness?

The bear chair....

She was one happy camper, yall!  I don’t think she stopped smiling and giggling the WHOLE time!  She loved the hot towel on her feet and legs and loved to watch the water change colors…

Happy girl!

She ended up getting dark green with silver sparkles and they even put fancy flowers on her big toes!

It was a fun little memory for us to share and her sweet delight was so worth it!

We took a spin on the little merry-go-round before we left…IMG_2351IMG_2355and then we called the clinic because brother’s eye seemed to be getting worse by the minute.  He woke up with it kinda crusty and then it decided to leak yellow and green mucus all day.  (Yum, I know).  By the time we were done with our pedi, it was swollen and red.

We took him in this morning and he sure enough has pink eye in BOTH eyes!  This is a first for all of us, for sure.  Poor little thing.  He doesn’t feel bad other than his eye so we got some drops and I put them wrestled him down and got them in.  Thankfully, daddy will be home for the next dose.

He’ll be contagion free in 24 hours – yay!  Little guy looks like a prize fighter right now…
