Today? Was a really good day. I think we were all desperate for some family time together that didn’t involve someone feeling like death warmed over. We had breakfast and cooked some pretend food in the toy room kitchen…
We let Sawyer get a little outside time in since it wasn’t too chilly or windy and we cooked some more in the barn…
We checked the mail and found we had a gift from Goo Goo so we all put it to good use…
The kiddos bathed together and got all snuggled up in their jammies…we ate a little supper and Sawyer watched a little show before bed. It was just a simple, good, familial day…my favorite kind.
Happy day after Halloween! I hope you’re surviving the sugar crashes and runny noses. We had a good day together and I tried to make it fun for the littles, because they are only little once, ya know. I made these for lunch..
and Sawyer got a fun little dessert!
After lunch, brother took a short nap and sister thought she saw a “scary shadow”…which I think translates to, “I’m too excited to take nap.” 🙂 So, we got around, got dressed and headed into Grant to trick-or-treat at the businesses downtown.
We did a little speed trick-or-treating down main because it was cold, at least to us. I’m starting to think Sawyer’s about as tough in the cold as I am…which means, she’s not. We hit all the main places and then decided we were just going to go on home and finish partying at our 3rd annual Phipps Family Camp IN. We always set the tent up in the living room on Halloween and eat a fun supper and watch Charlie Brown and just have fun together! She and brother fell asleep on the way home so our party started like this:
I woke her up for some pumpkin pizza but it never got too wild around here.
We did watch this…
I just wish there were fewer uses of the word “stupid.” Sigh.
All in all, a good Halloween. I encourage you to show grace to the littles today, mommas. They probably had too much candy and not enough sleep, but love will cover a multitude of sins. Love is patient, love is kind…it keeps no record of wrongs. They are only little once… Next week, you’ll look back on the halloween festivities with fondness and it will have been worth the tears and meltdowns and incessant disciplining you might be experiencing today. Don’t ask me how I know… 😉
Each week at Cubbies, one of the little cuties is responsible for bringing back the cookie bucket full of, well, cookies for snack time. This week was Sawyer’s week. (Don’t tell me you’re surprised that I signed up for a fun week…) You don’t have to bring cookies so we decided to make Rice Krispie treat pumpkins and they turned out really cute!
You’ll need:
3 Tablespoons butter
1 package of marshmallows
5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal
orange food coloring
15 mini Tootsie Rolls
1.) Melt down your butter and marshmallows over medium heat.
2.) Add in the food coloring and then coat your Krispies.
3.) While these cool, unwrap your Tootsie Rolls.
4.) Coat your hands in butter and shape your Krispies into a ball of sorts.
5.) Make a well and insert the Tootsie Roll in top. We curved ours for a little character.
These are super easy and super cute! Are you seeing a theme here regarding the kinds of projects I like? 🙂
Paint the cat got to come in the house under the condition that she didn’t let him go. And she didn’t. Poor cat. They did do a little snuggling in bed, to which he purred quite contentedly.
Wryder had got to play dress up with sister. This is her rendition of King Wryder. I think he looks quite dashing.
I learned that I need to be a little more specific about what it means when I tell Sawyer to put her cup in the dishwasher. I couldn’t get on to her, because she DID put her cup in the dishwasher…
We checked out a school auction on Saturday and came home with some fabulous finds, including quite a few old-school, pull down maps for $1!
And we got 36 of these beauties (for $0.11/each!) that can’t WAIT for me to paint them some fun, vibrant color.
WD looked quite dapper sporting orange and blue for the Broncos. His auntie got him this CA-YOOT vest and we broke it out for the brisk fall day.
We did a little makeup. And a lot of lipstick. A looooot of lipstick. Thankfully, momma spared Wryder from this activity.
I celebrated a #10 showing for the Red Raiders in the BCS standings! They’re playing some really good ball right now! I can’t even begin to tell you how glad I am that Kliff Kingsbury is back in town as head coach. He played for Mike Leach in the air raid glory days and he’s putting his spin on that style which seems to be working well for us. Plus, he’s not too bad to look at it…
We mourned a Bronco loss. 🙁
I’m not worried about them regarding their standings the rest of the season, I just really wanted Peyton to have a little taste of redemption.
All in all, a really good weekend! We have a CRAZY,busy week and then this weekend………I get to celebrate my bestie and her sweet baby girl!
Can’t wait to see her/them! Why-oh-why can’t Denver be in my backyard?! And why-oh-why can’t the weekend last all week?
As my About Me page dictates, I looooooooooooooooooove fall! I love everything about it!
I’m a snuggler – fall’s good for that!
I love pumpkin – fall’s good for that!
I love football – fall’s good for that!
I love overcast weather – fall’s good for that!
I love all things cozy – fall’s good for that!
I love hot coffee – well, anytime’s good for that but – fall’s good for that!
With this chilly, overcast day making it REALLY feel autumnal, I decided to take you on a little living room tour, fall style. Here are a few things I love that make it feel cozy in our family room.
I am a lover of words so I have a few fun, chatty prints scattered about our living space.
I don’t know why I’m so drawn to that apples one, but I have quite an affinity for it. It might just stay up post-Christmas, too.
Wrexy hand-painted these pilgrims and indians when he was around 9 years old and I think they’re adorable (like him).
I put them out last year but had them on our coffee table. I’m thinking they work better up high so little hands aren’t too tempted. This one is my favorite…
the indian momma with her little papoose baby. Aren’t they sweet?
Our picture window needed a little color (color is GOOD!) so I made this felt leaf garland that I think turned out pretty cute.
These were super simple to make! I just free-handed a leaf shape, traced it onto multiple colors of felt and cut them out. Then, I had Wrex thread the yarn through the leaves (that felt can be kinda tough to poke through.) Told ya it was simple! 😉
I really dig reclaimed wood and I think this tree is so fun. I always have something hanging from the hooks and the twine, so for fall, I just did a berry wreath and a few more seasonal prints (that I’m betting little Wryder will attempt to pull down as he’s in his circle of neglect jumper.) We’ll use the actual branches come November when we add leaves to make a thankful tree.
This is above Sawyer’s and my desk where we do our preschool and computer work. I think the girl in the leaves is super cute; she’s just kinda whimsical and trendy and nonchalant all rolled into one. Plus, she has curly hair – who doesn’t love a girl with curly hair? Sawyer is in love with that little jack-o-lantern, so I put it where she can see it during our lessons.
There are other random pumpkins in a few more nooks and crannies around the room, too.
All of these warm oranges and reds make it feel extra cozy in here. Now if only I had a fireplace…and some Red Raider football on TV……….
